In the library on Tuesday!
FOR HOMEWORK
for Tuesday
Preliminary Outline: Revised thesis block with three topic sentences. Each TS must have a supporting fact and the source where you found it). You don't need to write a conclusion yet.
As you revise your thesis block, make sure it is specific and debatable and that your method statement supports your thesis statement.
(example)
Thesis Block: While most people commonly associate the creation of the Anglican church with Henry VIII, there were several other key factors that led to the English Reformation. While Henry's quest for a son encouraged him to reject the Pope's authority, the long standing political conflict between the Catholic Church and English rulers, and sweeping societal changes at the end of the Renaissance also helped cement the rise of Protestantism in England.
Topic Sentence #1: Henry VIII's six wives and a desire for a male heir are certainly the mos well-known reason for England's break with the Catholic Church.
- Fact: Henry rejected the church in order to divorce his wife, since divorce wasn't allowed under Church law.
- Source: "Henry VIII and Tudor England" (http://www.britainexpress.com/History/Henry_VIII.htm)
Topic Sentence #2: (and so on...)
Topic Sentence #3: (and so on)
A WORD ON SOURCES
You will need to have FIVE SOURCES total, three websites, two books. You don't need to use five sources for your preliminary outline, but make an effort to use a few different sources to be sure you're getting supporting facts from a number of different places.
Also make sure to start to keep track of your sources - keep a list of works you read, including author, title, publisher, URL, pg #'s where you found information, and a short summary of what was in it.

one of the books I used as my source was in your classroom and I didn't have enough time to write down the author, title, publisher etc.
will you have the books on tuesday?
Yes, I will have the books on the cart on Tuesday.
ms shae,
i was working on making my thesis statement better and creating my method statement and i was lookind at the sheet of examples u gave us and the outline sheet but the hints u gave us and the examples didnt help me at all
so i dont want to write a really bad thesis and method and create my topic sentances off of those when i will just have to redo them and make them better
so is there any way that i could come in after school tomorrow and get help on writing those?
and would it be possible for me to just bring in my research and go off of that but still get credit for the assignment?
Bring in your research and the start of a thesis and topic sentences - I'm stamping the HW for tomorrow, so please try to sketch out something - a thesis, method and three topic sentences.
Remember, your thesis should make an argument, your method tells me three things that support that argument, and the topic sentences discuss those three things.
Example:
THESIS: Vanilla ice cream is superior to chocolate.
METHOD: In addition to not staining clothing the way that chocolate can, it has the added health benefits of the vanilla bean and has proven to be chosen four out of five times in taste tests.
TOPIC SENTENCE: Chocolate ice cream can often stain clothing because of the cocoa bean's naturally dark pigment.
FACT: Vanilla beans don't stain, unlike chocolate, wine and other foods (source: iheartvanilla.com)
Beau, I'll check with you in class tomorrow. Hope this helps.
- Ms. Shea
thanks
that helps my understanding a little more so i will do the best i can
