It's been grand...

Well, this is it! Summer has arrived!

I want to thank you guys for giving me a great year at Issaquah, and I really am sad I'm leaving. I will miss all of you (well, most of you.... kidding). I have learned a lot from you this year, and I hope that you learned at least one or two things from me.

When my new contact information is active (late August), I will post my new school email. Until then, you can post on the blog if you have questions over the summer or just want to say hello!

Thanks again, and enjoy your summers!

1. Intro slide (name, period, date, title)

3. Lay out all the reasons that your conflict happened

4. Thesis: This is the most important reason!

5. Reason 1 with evidence

US - Friday 6/6

Hey gang, sorry I'm not in today. I will be back on Monday, so feel free to drop me a line with any questions, clarifications, etc. If you would like help with your thesis, email it to me and I'll try to get back to you.

For today, please look at the examples of bad powerpoint slides, to help guide you away from what NOT to do.

Remember, this presentation is about the CAUSE of the conflict, not really about the conflict itself. You are to answer the "What caused it and why" question, not only the "What was it?" question.

If you're struggling with your argument, follow these steps:

  1. Define the conflict, and outline the major issues/events/stakeholders
  2. List the reasons why it happened - what caused it? What were the "factors" leading to conflict?
  3. Of that list, decided which factor is most important in causing the conflict. Voila, this is your thesis!
  4. Now come up with two supporting arguments (reasons 1 and 2 on your graphic organizer) that tell me WHY is that the most important factor, and not something else?
  5. Now find two concrete details (cited evidence) for each supporting reason.

If you're having thesis wording trouble, start by filling this in:

The most important factor leading to (insert conflict) between (insert stakeholder 1) and (insert stakeholder 2) was (insert the primary cause of conflict chosen from the overall list of causes). This is because (insert supporting reason 1) and (insert supporting reason 2).

Once you have that, you can work on stronger word choice and phrasing.
