Hey Ms. Shea this is Abby Englund. I was just wondering if I could read Night for my outside reading thing. It is about the Holocaust.

You cannot read a book that is part of the English curriculum. You should read the book that you chose back in October. Check with me on Monday before class.

Is there a specific way that you want us to start out writing the first paragraph? Should we just automatically go into it saying, "The story starts out during...."

And how specific/detailed should we be when summarizing the book? Do we have to talk about every event that happened or just the ones that seem the most important to us?

You can start it however, as long as it makes sense. I'm looking more for content and analysis than style, but I do still want your writing to be fluent and organized.

In terms of specificity, imagine that you have to explain the entire book to someone in the space of an elevator ride - just give me the important highlights, and enough information to understand the book's ending/overall concepts/etc.
